Highlights:

New Territories make up a notable portion of land with development potential and playing an important role in boosting land supply for economic development and housing in Hong Kong.
In this seminar, we will highlight recent update legal development and court cases related to land Law and conveyancing in New Territories, for example, adverse possession, Tso/Tong land which is widely considered strategic to the proposed new metropolis in the northern New Territories, New Territories Ordinance (Cap. 97), small house policy and other relevant statutes regarding succession law relevant to title to land in Hong Kong etc. Also, some practical note for legal proceeding will be discussed in this seminar.

Course Outline includes:
•       Gist of legal system in Hong Kong and overview of litigation procedures relating to land matters
•       Relevant legal issues and recent case law and developments related to adverse possession and Limitation Ordinance (Cap. 347) in Hong Kong
•       Relevant legal issues and/or recent case law and developments related to New Territories Ordinance (Cap. 97) and Tso/Tong land; small house policy
•       Relevant legal issues and/or recent case law and developments related to law of succession and probate practices related to title of land in Hong Kong

Lau Wan Ching
Lau Wan Ching, Barrister-at-Law, Accredited Mediator, Gilt Chambers Ms. Lau Wan-ching was called to the Bar of Hong Kong in 2007. She was also qualified as accredited mediator and started her private practice for mediation since 2011. In addition, Ms. Lau is appointed and currently served as Chairman/ Adjudicator/ Members in public service, legal and mediation area including the statutory appeal panel and disciplinary panel in Hong Kong. As a barrister-at-law, Ms. Lau’s areas of specialization (civil practice) in her legal profession include family, broadcasting and media, company, contracts, land and property, personal injury, mediation, mental health, sale of goods etc. She is also experienced in conducting criminal litigation (criminal practice), acting for prosecution as counsel on fiat or acting as defence counsel to defend/appeal in criminal cases (including criminal, traffic and departmental summons). Before switching her career and joined the legal profession, Ms. Lau worked as senior journalist and news anchor in several well-known local broadcasting media in Hong Kong for more than a decade including News and Information Services Division of Television Broadcasts Limited (TVB), News Channel of Cable TV, also News Department of Asia Television. Therefore, she also equips with strong background in media law including libel/defamation, privacy, reputation risk and access to information. During her professional practice, Ms. Lau also engages as part-time lecturer or guest speaker in the local universities in Hong Kong, teaching commercial law, medical law and media law. She also delivers lectures for CPD/ training courses in regard to legal issues related to building management and landlord and tenant, social media, copyright, competition law and Trade Description Ordinance, criminal law (including road traffic) etc.
